Adaptability, Grit, and Growth: Appfront Racing Takes On the RaceLabs Nordschleife GT3 Challenge

In sim racing, preparation is usually the bedrock of performance. Hours spent fine-tuning setups, studying telemetry, and dialing in force feedback settings can make or break a stint. But every now and then, an opportunity comes along that demands pure adaptability over meticulous planning.
That was precisely the scenario for Appfront Racing (AF Racing) this past Saturday. While we knew about the RaceLabs' Nordschleife GT3 event three days in advance, busy schedules meant the team was only able to get on-site for actual track practice the day right before the race. With just a single day to get up to speed, we jumped straight into the deep end on one of the most unforgiving circuits on the planet.
Trial by Fire on the Green Hell
The event featured the Assetto Corsa First Studio Racing (FSR) GT3 Pack. With virtually no time to test or dial in custom setups during our brief practice session, AF Racing elected to run a completely stock GT3 Porsche. We relied on baseline settings, driver instinct, and clean execution to survive the grueling endurance distance.
Beyond the limited track time, the event served as a valuable lesson in driver calibration.
The venue ran Moza R5 (5Nm) direct drive wheelbases and jumping back into the 5Nm environment on short notice required sharp recalibration.
For Johann, coming off his usual Ultra 21Nm rig, dialing in subtle steering cues at 5Nm took constant focus during his stint. Digging deep and working on his feel lap after lap, Johann put together a solid 8:16 around the Green Hell.
Gerald, adjusting from his Moza R9 setup, found a brilliant rhythm in the heat of battle to lay down a blistering 8:02 lap during the race. At one point, Gerald put on a masterclass pursuit, slashing a massive 20-second gap to P3 and putting the podium firmly in our sights. However, with the 2-hour clock expiring and extending the race by an extra two laps, strategy took priority over raw track position. Gerald had to pit on the final lap for a quick refuel to ensure the car made it to the finish line, ultimately securing our position safely.
The Verdict & What We’re Building On
When the checkered flag fell, Appfront Racing crossed the line in 4th place out of 6 teams. Considering the tight on-site practice window, running a totally stock car, and managing strategic fuel stops on the fly, bringing the Porsche home intact was a strong, encouraging baseline for the team.

More than anything, this event gave us clear areas to sharpen before our next outing. First, hardware versatility is key: having tested on 5Nm bases at Apex's showroom prior, we know the gear is solid, it’s fully on us as drivers to adapt seamlessly between different wheelbases without losing pace. Moving forward, we can leverage our home setups by dialing down the force feedback to mimic venue-standard torque during practice, ensuring we stay sharp for whatever wheel is in front of us.
Second, endurance strategy needs to be far sharper. Navigating fuel calculations under timed-race extensions and dynamic stint management cost us precious time when the podium was within striking distance.
Building tighter pit protocols and mastering instant adaptability across different hardware setups will be the core focus areas for Johann, Gerald, and the entire team moving forward.
