From taking the controls of light aircraft at just 8 years old to tearing up local kart tracks, Johann Villena is a driver defined by speed, precision, and multi-domain discipline. Having logged extensive flight time alongside his dad in everything from ultralights, amphibious LSAs to certified aircraft, Johann seamlessly translated his high-speed spatial awareness into karting and high-level sim racing. Now commanding a Moza R21 Ultra rig for AppFront Racing and preparing for his transition into real-world circuit racing with his Toyota Vios, Johann is systematically paving his path toward the ultimate dream: World Endurance Championship and Formula 1.

Johann Villena’s relationship with speed didn't start on asphalt, it started high in the sky.
He was just 8 years old when his dad first let him take the controls of an aircraft. Flying quickly became second nature as the duo took to the air in everything from light sport aircraft (LSAs) and ultralights to amphibious planes like the SeaRay and Petrel, alongside classic trainers like the Cessna 152 and 172. To keep him entertained between flight sessions, his dad began taking him to the kart track in Tarlac for casual laps. That was all it took. The moment Johann felt the raw force of a kart, he didn't just want to drive, he wanted to know how to go faster than everyone else. That relentless curiosity led him to enroll in the Petron Academy for Karting, which eventually launched him into competitive SWS (Sodi W Series) races in Porac, Pampanga.
Searching for an edge to shave vital tenths off his lap times, Johann tried sim racing at Monza Barcade. The precision, real-time telemetry feedback, and instant muscle memory training immediately clicked. It directly elevated his real-world karting game and propelled him to victory in SWS races.
Eventually, Johann made the full-time jump into sim racing, building a high-end professional setup featuring a Moza R21 Ultra direct drive base, CS Pro steering wheel, SRP pedals, and a Next Level Racing cockpit.
Today, as an Atenean balancing his academic studies, flight hours, and esports career with AppFront Racing, Johann’s eyes remain locked on the future. With a pre-loved Toyota Vios gifted by his aunt set to usher in his next chapter in real-world circuit racing, his ultimate destination remains clear: bringing Philippine motorsport to the global stage in WEC and Formula 1.
