Driver Development Part 2: Taming the Mustang at Zandvoort with Coach Luis

As the AAP Esports Championship moves into Round 2, the challenge ramps up. Following our initial team sessions, AppFront Racing logged back in for Driver Development Part 2, this time tackling the raw power of the 2015 Ford Mustang in preparation for the upcoming individual online sprint races (Asseto Corsa).
Guided by Coach Luis, the session focused on mastering Circuit Zandvoort’s tricky banking, finding the optimal racing lines, and fine-tuning trail braking techniques to keep the heavy Mustang stable under load.
🏎️ Home Rigs & Hardware Standardization
With over 60% of our driver lineup now operating dedicated simulator rigs directly from home, this session was conducted fully online.
A major operational strength for AppFront Racing this season comes down to hardware alignment. The squad has standardized around the MOZA Racing ecosystem:
Alenie Valera: Operating a MOZA R9 V3 direct-drive base with a KS Wheel and SRP Pedals.
The Garcia Brothers (Gerald & Sebastian): Utilizing MOZA R9 V2 direct-drive bases with FSR Wheels and SRP Pedals.
Johann Villena: Commanding a MOZA R21 Ultra direct-drive base with a CS Pro Wheel and SRP Pedals.
Standardizing our rig architecture across the team makes a massive difference behind the scenes. Sharing spare parts, troubleshooting hardware configurations, and exchanging rig ergonomics advice across our home setups is effortless, allowing our drivers to spend less time on tech support and more time turning laps.
🎯 Track Focus: Circuit Zandvoort & Trail Braking
The 2015 Ford Mustang requires a smooth touch, especially around the sweeping undulations of Zandvoort. During the briefing, Coach Luis walked the drivers through:
Zandvoort Racing Lines: Positioning the car to handle Zandvoort's technical apexes and banked turns while keeping the front-engine chassis balanced.
Trail Braking Discipline: Managing pedal pressure on entry to keep weight over the front tires, reducing understeer, and rotating the car cleanly through tight corners.

Alenie Valera – Dialing in her pedal control ahead of her individual sprint outings.
Sebastian Garcia – Working on consistent line choice alongside his brother Gerald.
Johann Villena – Refining his entry speeds to maximize the precision of his high-torque direct-drive setup.
With Coach Luis' guidance and a fully unified hardware setup, the squad is ready to take on the grid for Round 2!
